A M E E L E (Mediterranean Association of Schools of Spanish as a Foreign Language in the Valencian Region)
MEDITERRANEAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE PROMOTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF SPANISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE IN THE VALENCIAN REGION
Our association, a member of F.E.D.E.L.E. (Spanish Federation of Schools of Spanish as a Foreign Language), was created in 2002 with the aim of bringing together the leading schools of Spanish in the Valencian Region to commit to certain requirements to certify the quality of our services.
All A M E E L E members are accredited by the Cervantes Institute, a guarantee for anyone wishing to study Spanish at our schools.
We are committed to the idea that our schools, at locations throughout Castellón, Valencia and Alicante, must offer the best image of Spanish language and culture along with the teaching methods and complementary services necessary to ensure that our students' stay in the Valencian Region is an enriching experience in both cultural and personal terms.
Our universal language together with our Mediterranean character, gastronomy, wealth of historical culture and the privileged scenery and climate of our location, make the Valencian Region the perfect place to learn Spanish.
Visit the Valencian Region and find out for yourself!
The Spanish Institute is located in modern premises with a separate entrance, on the ground floor of a large building just a few minutes from the old city centre of Castellón, near the Ribalta Park (a garden dating back many years and featuring countless plant species), the bullring and the old train station.
The Spanish Institute is the largest study centre in Castellón with premises of 800 sq.m. housing 5 classrooms, 1 language lab, 3 computer rooms, 1 C.A.D lab, a library with books and videos, and administration offices. In addition, it complies with all the safety regulations governing buildings of these dimensions.
The Spanish as a Foreign Language Department organises Spanish courses for all levels, and is renowned for its quality teaching and professional staff. It is part of our International Department, run by a multilingual manager, and is responsible for course co-ordination.

THE VALENCIAN REGION
The Valencian Region, with a surface area of 23,255 sq. km and over 4,200,000 inhabitants, features an essentially Mediterranean landscape with great contrasts between its mountainous, inland areas and the vast, coastal plains stretching the length of its 518 km of coastline. The entire region is blessed with a moderate climate with mean maximum temperatures ranging from 18.7º C in winter to 31.7º C in summer and almost 3,000 hours of sun a year.
The region consists of three provinces from north to south - Castellón, Valencia and Alicante - which encompass the four tourist labels of Castellón Costa Azahar, Valencia Terra i Mar, Costa Blanca and Benidorm.
Landscape
Rice paddies, salt marshes, orange groves, arid inland plateaux, marshes, pine and kermes oak forests, deep canyons hewn out by rivers, wetlands, endless beaches and hidden coves all contribute to the great environmental and scenic variety of the Valencian Region, home to twelve natural parks inhabited by unique species of fauna and flora.
History: Thousands of years of culture
The history of the Valencian Region has been shaped over thousands of years. Since the days of the Levante art cave paintings found in caves and shelters, declared to be a world heritage site by the Unesco, the culture of these lands has been influenced by Iberians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims. The modern Valencian Region originated in the 13th century when King Jaime I conquered the Kingdom of Valencia from the Arabs. He then established his own charter to govern and manage the newly-created kingdom. The different periods that have ensued since - reflected in monuments of styles as varied as Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, modernist and even the most avant-garde art - have clearly influenced its cities and towns.
Inland
Just a few kilometres from the coast are the beautiful inland areas of the Valencian Region with the authentic flavour of villages and hamlets that have retained their cultural wealth over the course of the centuries.
The inland areas have green mountains with rivers, springs and chapels dotted across the landscape. Visit the streets of inland villages where you will stumble across Gothic and Baroque palaces; scan the horizon from countless castles and Arab watch towers; go hiking though mountain woods or canoeing along our rivers, try the delicious local cuisine, climb the highest peaks in the region, go paragliding, or simply enjoy the fragrance of the wild aromatic plants in the countryside…
Beaches
The 500 kilometres of coastline feature a wide variety of beaches ranging from fine, golden sand to pebble beaches, some sheltered by coastal features and others stretching out to the blue horizon. Excellent for sunbathing even in winter and bathing in warm seas in autumn and summer. Many beaches in this region fly the blue flag certifying the quality of their sand and water and offer a myriad of facilities and services to visitors including recreation and sports areas for basketball and volleyball, floating platforms, environmentally-friendly footbaths, cleaning and maintenance services, litter bins, walkways etc.
Festivals
Light, fireworks, music, events…. Colourful, open-air festivities in the Valencian Region bring the streets to life. The festive atmosphere in the air always makes visitors feel welcome. Firework festivals like Fallas and the Hogueras de San Juan, the spectacular events staged in the Moors and Christians festivities, religious feasts such as the Elx mystery plays and the pilgrimages in the Magdalena festival. Each season of the year has festivities to mark historical events, folk customs, legendary exploits, religious rituals or the passage of the seasons.
